ABOUT ME

I am Panagiotis Eleftheriadis, a Greek from Kilkis, a small town next to Thessaloniki. I have one sister and two brothers. When I was a kid I was involved in various sports groups and in the Scouts.

Going to University, I moved to Thessaloniki and I started studying at the Polytechnic School of Aristotle University. My educational background is in Electrical and Computer Engineering (MEng – 5-year program), with a two-year specialization in the field of Electrical Power Engineering. That provided me with a piece of deep knowledge in the areas such as electrical power systems, electric machines, renewable energies, primarily photovoltaic systems and at the same time programming. Finally, my MEng Thesis was: "Economic Analysis of the companies that deal with Renewable Energy Source Aggregating of the European Energy Market".

During my studies, I successfully participated in the Erasmus+ programme as an Exchange Student at the University of Zaragoza, in Spain. This experience led me to join the Erasmus Student Network of Thessaloniki to help Erasmus students in need. I have managed to obtain leadership positions, develop and facilitate my own training programs with 100+ incoming participants, and build a network of more than 300 people, mostly in English and Spanish. This whole experience has shaped me into an open-minded, curious, social, independent and easy-going person. I am someone who is passionate and also effective at working hard, understanding others, advising people and managing projects

Since a child, I´ve always wanted to have a working experience abroad. So, in November of 2017, after my graduation, I started my research internship at the University Carlos III of Madrid. There, I met interesting colleagues and friends and together with my professor, David Santos, I did some research in the Photovoltaic field. With my research team, we published on April 8th, 2020 an article in the Solar Energy magazine with the title: "Validation and self-shading enhancement for SoL: A photovoltaic estimation model". That was the trigger for my interest in the research field and later to follow a career as a PhD student and researcher.

I decided to continue my adventure abroad, and on April 2018, I started working at Everis, a consulting and outsourcing company in the area of the Energy Industry, in the position of Solutions Analyst in order to enrich my skills in programming and in consulting

After one year of programming, I decided to go back to Electrical Engineering and I started working for an Engineering Firm called Empresarios Agrupados in the sector of Electrical Calculations and Design. Main activity I was in charge of as the main project engineer for the design of the photovoltaic parks. Our main client was Iberdrola Renovables and I was dealing with all the Electric, Civil and Mechanical Calculations, the Documentation of the project and the Yearly Forecasting using PVsyst. Finally was in charge of a project related to the Decarbonisation and Denuclearisation of the Spanish Electric Grid, in which we studied the closure of the existing Carbon-based and Nuclear Power Plants and the penetration of Renewable Energies, studying the possible points of the grid that Renewable Generation could be placed based on the stability and robustness of the system.

But the idea for the research was already planted a few years ago. So, on November 2020, I moved to Milan and I started my PhD at the Politecnico di Milano for the research topic of Predictive Methods of State of Charge and Ageing Estimation of Storage Systems and their Integration in the Energy Management System of a Microgrid. I am currently in Milan, working at the MultiGood MicroGridLAB, an experimental Low Voltage rig operating in the Department of Energy of Politecnico di Milano since 2018 in collaboration with ENGIE EPS. This experimental setup is an effective testbench for developing innovative Energy Management Systems, implementing Artificial Intelligent tools in the MG management and load/RES forecast, testing innovative components and integrating Electric Vehicles with bidirectional power flows (from grid to vehicle and vehicle to grid) in the MG management.
